It’s the season for some scary fun. Here’s a list of Ghost Tours offered in our area this year.

Some of these tours are heavy on history. Some focus on entertaining the participants. Not all of these tours are family friendly so contact the tour directly if you have any questions regarding whether it is age appropriate for your child.

I have a child who is scared of EVERYTHING so we don’t do ghost or haunted related events as a family. But your family may be full of brave thrill seekers. If so, consider a ghost tour as part of your Halloween family fun.

Nashville Ghost Tours   (Map)

Three tours available.

Haunted Downtown Nashville Tour

This tour involves storytelling that might be frightening to a child.  There are no things or people that will jump out or intentionally try to scare you on the tour. So, depending on your child’s comfort level with the notion of something being ‘haunted’, this could be a family friendly option.

Haunted Franklin Tour   (Map)

The family-friendly Haunted Franklin tour explores the ghosts and haunts that linger on the brick-lined streets and historic dwellings in charming Franklin, Tennessee. Departed socialites, a Civil War spy, failed businessmen, Confederate soldiers, and at least one dog roam downtown, and we spend an intriguing hour and a half with them. One is helpful, several appear lonely, and one seems to be afraid of the dark. We’ll visit 4-5 locations on our leisurely walk through Franklin. Bring your camera: you never know what you may catch. And we’ll show you the photos that other visitors have taken on our tours.

Tours are done Monday – Saturday @7PM. Plan to arrive about 10 minutes early.

Ghosts Of The Battlefield At Lotz House  (Map)

The epicenter of the 1864 Battle of Franklin is located just six blocks south of the historic boundary of the once-quiet village of Franklin, and was the homeplace of two families, the Carters and the Lotzes. We will tour the restored Lotz House while hearing stories of bloodshed and destruction… and unexplained phenomena. You’ll hear of the woman in a nightgown crying out for a loved one, a little girl staring out a window, women’s voices (but there’s no one there) and ordinary items that just can’t stay put. When lives are cut short, sometimes spirits remain…and that’s what happened here. Visit the home described by the Travel Channel in 2012 as one of the “most terrifying places in America.”

Tours are done Fridays @6:30PM.

Grave Matters Tour – Franklin  (Map)  October 26, 2019

Once a year, costumed reenactors portray some of the cemeteries’ most interesting people. Join us on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 7:00-9:00pm for a walk through history. We also offer guided tours Thursday evenings at 5:00pm.

Either way, you’ll meet the Carter father and son whose home is the epicenter of the Battle of Franklin. You’ll be introduced to the little-known but still fascinating two Georges, Grummond and Cuppett, who fought on opposite sides of the War, and are remembered for different reasons. Brave teenager Fannie Courtney, a Union sympathizer who tended to the Union wounded at First Presbyterian Church will tell her story (you won’t believe the rest of it). Not all the stories are Civil War-related. You won’t want to miss the grave of Anarchy Cowles, a freed slave, or the marker of the two infant Marr sisters, whose short, tragic lives are commemorated by a broken shaft. Not to be missed is the grave of theUnknown Civil War soldier whose remains were uncovered at a Franklin construction site in 2009 and later interred at Rest Haven.

Bring a flashlight and wear closed-toed shoes. The cemetery is grassy with no paths and has a very uneven surface. Not recommended for wheelchair or walker users.
