Mr. Popper’s Penguins waddled into town this week and are performing through December 3, 2017 at the Nashville Children’s Theatre in a not to miss Broadway Musical style show!
“I could not be more excited to put my first musical here in Nashville up on its flippers… urm I mean feet!” says Ernie Nolan, the show’s director and choreographer, as well as NCT’s Executive Artistic Director. “I have some of the best artists in Nashville as designers, performers, and musicians on board to bring this world, which is a little bit Gershwin and a little bit Muppet Show, to life. Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a musical of hope and inspiration with spirited musical numbers and a boat load of dancing penguins.”
About the Show
Based on the classic book, Mr. Popper is a painter and decorator with big dreams of travel and adventure. Finances prevent him from exploring so he travels through books and the radio. He wrote a letter to an Arctic explorer and got an unexpected response that leads to the adventure and travel Mr. Popper always wanted.
The production is 75 minutes of non-stop music and hilarity that kept my 7 year old daughter entertained and dancing along in her seat. The six cast members backed up by the brand new NCT orchestra played a total of 24 characters seamlessly. It is sure to be an enjoyable afternoon out with your whole family.
Crafts and Activities Before the Show
Be sure to arrive early. There are crafts in the lobby, as well as a scavenger hunt just right for kids keeping everyone entertained before the curtain goes up. My daughter made a penguin puppet and then used it to dance in her lap throughout the show with the penguins on stage. It made for an interactive performance!
