Oliver!Springhouse Theatre Company  (Map)  September 8 -24, 2023

Based on Charles Dickens’s classic novel, Lionel Bart’s Oliver! is a Tony-winning classic in its own right. After the other orphans dream about “Food, Glorious Food,” Oliver Twist actually dares to ask, “Please sir, I want some more.”
The beadle of the orphanage sells the disobedient boy to a mortician, and Oliver wonders, “Where is Love?” Narrowly escaping his cruel masters, Oliver is taken in by thieves, including Artful Dodger who sings “Consider Yourself” as a welcome into the family of cheery criminals. The thieves are led by Fagin (singer of the iconic solo “Reviewing The Situation”). Two of the gang’s most prominent thieves are the terrifying Bill Sikes and tragic Nancy, who sings “As Long As He Needs Me.”

What is to be done with Oliver Twist? The streets of Victorian England are dangerous, but Oliver’s real family may be just around the corner.

The Play that Goes Wrong –  The Center for the Arts Murfreesboro (Map) September 15-24, 2023

Rated PG-13

“Break a leg!” takes on a whole new meaning for a woefully misguided troupe of players at the Cornley University Society’s opening night performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor. An unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, a ruffled detective, and a word-mangling butler (among others) must battle against technical gaffes, forgotten lines, and sabotaging scenery in a quest to arrive all in one piece at the final curtain call.
Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, all mayhem, this 1920s whodunit is disastrously delightful.
