As the sun sets and darkness falls, walk among the final resting places of thousands of Murfreesboro’s citizens. Hear their stories and learn about Murfreesboro’s unique past! This exclusive tour offers the visitor a rare opportunity to learn about the history of Murfreesboro while experiencing the Evergreen Cemetery after dark!
Dr. James Maney, owner of the Oaklands farm, sold 20 acres of land to the town of Murfreesboro in 1872, and a new public cemetery was developed. Today, Evergreen Cemetery covers over 100 acres and nearly 20,000 individuals are interred there, including, Murfreesboro’s founders, Confederate soldiers, a former Tennessee Governor, business owners, artists, community activists, and those once enslaved by the Maney family.
Guided tours are $30.00 per person and will depart from the Evergreen Cemetery office entrance at 519 Greenland Drive Murfreesboro, TN 37130 at 7pm. The tours will last approximately one hour and are limited to 20 guests. No public restrooms are available at the cemetery. Please bring a flashlight and wear weather appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes.
