Science club at the library is a free monthly science event for children, young teens, and parents. Each month a scientist from Vanderbilt teaches about a topic that is important to their research. In the past we have looked at insects under a microscope, made origami, designed microbes out of crafts, and played a variety of games.
In May our topic is fungi with a focus of those associated with foods! There are millions of species of fungi that can do all sorts of cool things! Did you know the fastest organism is a fungus or that fungi can glow in the dark? Did you know that they helped make many of the foods you enjoy?! Ph.D Candidate Jacob L. Steenwyk will lead a discussion and activity about fun and funky fungi with a focus on the beneficial ones found in foods.
