We all know the story, and the magic, and the music. This spring Disney is bringing Beauty and the Beast to life as only as Disney can.

Beauty and the Beast

If you love the story of Beauty and the Beast and the original animated Disney movie, then you are going to love the new live action version. My family saw it in IMAX 3D which immersed us in the music and imagery.

Beauty and the Beast is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The story and sound track is familiar, but there are new songs and new adventures.  Don’t worry, all your old favorites are included in the film and Disney creates some real showstopping scenes around them.

At the time of release, there were several articles that announced that the new version of the movie has the first openly gay character in a Disney movie. While Le Fou is definitely enamored with Gaston, most children won’t catch on to the few comments and gestures. My 6 year old daughter didn’t even mention Le Fou when we discussed the movie. Her favorite scene was the newly imaged and spectacular dining scene with “Be Our Guest”.

We took four kids ranging from elementary to college, and one said it was the best movie she has ever seen. I expect this to become one of Disney’s classics and I felt it was even better than the original animated version.  One of the kids is a HUGE fan of the original movie.  I was worried the movie might not live up to the expectations of a ‘super fan’ but I was wrong.  She loved every minute!
