***Shadrack’s Christmas at Jellystone Park is now the Dancing Lights of Christmas at Jellystone Park. Updated details and pictures are HERE*****
Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland is a great place for holiday family fun. Anyone who lives in the Nashville area can attest to the awesomeness of the Christmas displays at Gaylord Opryland. It’s incomparable really. But sometimes it’s just a bit…much. Do you know what I mean?
Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland is ‘just enough’. They are located close to Opry Mills on Music Valley Drive. The location is Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park which is a funny name for a small campground that operates in that space.
Shadrack’s is a drive-through light display. Since the location was built as a campground, there are several long, paved aisles that are accessible with a vehicle. As you enter the area, you will pay admission (you never have to get out of your car!) and then begin to drive through the lights. The lot attendant will give you information regarding tuning your car radio to a specific station. Don’t skip this part. The lights are timed to the music on that station and it really enhances the experience.
The display takes 20 to 30 minutes to drive through (depending on how fast you drive). There are lights everywhere! There are lots of interesting displays in every place you look.
Once you complete the drive, a attendant armed with a flashlight will direct you to a parking area in Santa’s Village. This is basically a huge tent set up at the end of the display. Outside of the tent is a concession trailer. On the opposite side, there is a fire pit where you can warm up.
Inside Santa’s Village ( a 13,000 square foot tent!) you can take a train ride, visit with Santa and pet some animals. There are also inflatables and a ferris wheel! Be aware, most of these activities are for small children…much to the chagrin of my big kids :)
The only bathroom facilities at Shadrack’s are porta-potties, so time your trip accordingly.
Make some time this holiday season to take a trip to Shadrack’s. It’s not the biggest light display in town but that’s not a bad thing. Your whole family will enjoy the trip and the lack of traffic will help you stay in the Christmas spirit.
